We’ll explore the history and highlights of five great world art museums. From the Louvre in Paris, France, to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, we will examine the history of these museums and the treasures that make them great. As with the Louvre and Hermitage, the Prado in Madrid, Spain, owes its creation to the royalty of its nation. We’ll also discuss the variety of art collections that make up the Vatican museums in Italy. Formed from the collections and funds of wealthy American industrialists, we’ll close our study of great world museums with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, second only to the Louvre for the number of annual visitors.

Martha Chiarchiaro has brought art history to life for more than 30 years. She received her master’s degree in the history of art from Williams College and has taught a variety of classes at the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester State University, WISE, and other cultural organizations. As noted on her Seeing History website, Martha looks forward to sharing her enjoyment of the history and highlights of art museums around the world.
