The late 19th-century witnessed the burgeoning revolutionary style of French Impressionism. A group of American artists, Twachtman, Weir, Hassam, Chase, Benson, DeCamp, Dewing, Metcalf, Tarbell, Simmons, and Reid, broke from the Society of American Artists who were hostile to Impressionism and spent the next 20 years exhibiting as a collaborative, in much the same way artists such as Monet, Renoir, and Degas had done decades earlier. We will explore the individual styles of these artists who were all inspired by Impressionism.

Martha Chiarchiaro has brought art history to life for more than 30 years. She received her master’s degree in the history of art from Williams College and has taught a variety of classes at the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester State University, WISE, and other cultural organizations.
