This course will focus on American symbols of freedom and independence, different interpretations of space and abstraction through artists’ eyes, and a look at how families reflect the American spirit. We will discuss the changing attitudes and lifestyles in an urban environment and how artists portray some of these changes. In addition, we will look at the urban culture, the growth of cities, WPA Programs, changes in communities and the diverse populations.
