For the past several years, museums around the world have held a campaign called #5, promoting the public’s knowledge of at least 5 women artists. In this course, we will explore five women artists in each of the past five centuries. Just as a sampling, we’ll examine the works of the court painter to Elizabeth I, the drama of Artemisia Gentileschi, the glamour of Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, the maternal work of Mary Cassatt, and the boldness of Georgia O’Keeffe. You’ll have a better understanding of the tremendous contribution made by women artists over the past five centuries.

INSTRUCTOR: Martha Chiarchiaro has brought history to life through the art of the times for more than 30 years. She received her Master’s degree in the History of Art from Williams College and has taught a variety of art history courses at the Worcester Art Museum and Worcester State University. Martha has always been fascinated by the various techniques in art.
