Meet some of the people who built and shaped American journalism from colonial and revolutionary times to the First World War.  Starting with early publishers to early 20th century journalists, we’ll look at how their ideas and methods are evident in today’s news practices.  Through the stories of several journalism leaders each week, the course will comprise a rough history of American journalism and offer some conversation about how we view and use this essential institution today.

Rosemary McCarthy has a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno, where she was also Assistant Professor from 2002–2012. She also has broadcast experience in television and radio.
