The avant-garde French artists of the late 19th century, known as Impressionists, created changes in style, subject matter, and even the marketing of works of art. We’ll explore the eight Impressionist exhibitions, as well as the stylistic development and differences amongst the Impressionists, such as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, Morisot, and Cassatt, during the last four decades of the 19th century. The impact of the Impressionists on American artists will be illustrated in the paintings of artists such as Robinson, Hassam, and Benson.
