Not all avengers are superheroes in leotards. The avengers we will be watching may be vulnerable, but these men and women provide us with valuable insights about what it is to be human. (And what of revenge from beyond the grave?!) We will watch three films that include themes of revenge and consider them in the contexts of both world cinema and popular culture. An extensive filmography, provided to each class member, will also furnish much material for discussion. Let this rousing course make your day!
GROUP LEADER: Jeffrey Long, a film critic for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette since 2008, has taught courses in recent years for both WISE and Becker College. He is also the author of the 500-page readers’ guide, Remembered Childhoods (2007).
