In this class we will read travel literature, focusing primarily on the essays and stories from the volume Best American Travel Writing 2016, edited by Bill Bryson.  We will read selected essays and articles for discussion and analysis using some important creative nonfiction writing techniques including braiding, image and metaphor, telling a story, the “aha moment,” and taking the reader on a journey.

GROUP LEADER: Susan Perschbacher is Professor Emeritus at Assumption where she taught Sociology for over twenty years.  Upon retirement she earned a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Southern Maine Stonecoast Creative Writing Program.  She specialized in nonfiction writing, including memoir, nature writing, spiritual writing, and travel writing.
