NOTE SPECIAL START TIME OF CLASS SESSIONS
Worcester-born Pulitzer Prize winner and United States Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz (1905-2006) was recognized for writing poems that transformed his life into legend. Participants will employ the inquiry method as a way of connecting to and comprehending one poem each week. By drawing on literary criticism, interviews and family documents, discussions will highlight ways in which events in Kunitz’s life influenced his poetic decisions. One session will meet at his boyhood home, designated as a Literary Landmark (ala.org) where we will talk with Carol Stockmal, owner/curator and friend of Stanley Kunitz.
GROUP LEADER: Between 2009 and 2015, writer/artist/teacher Judith Ferrara, PhD volunteered at the Stanley Kunitz Boyhood Home. This experience resulted in her ongoing study of his life and poetry. Please visit www.PaletteAndPen.com and http://kunitzhome.org for more information.
